Things I Loved In August

August was a pretty eventful month….Natural Chef school ended, I moved into my first apartment, and I began my junior year of college. There were a lot of new things that I experienced this month and I can’t wait to share them with you all!

Cacao Nibs

I had never tried cacao nibs until this past month, and I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to discover them! They are little vegan gluten-free delicious morsels that you can snack on by themselves, throw them into any cookie recipe, trail mix, bowl of cereal, or oatmeal. Cacao nibs are filled with energy and mood boosting compounds, and they even help to raise HDL (“good” cholesterol). If you love dark chocolate, then these are the perfect snack for you!

Things I Loved In July

Rice Cakes:

This month I haven’t been able to get enough rice cakes! They are so delicious, and I love how they only have ONE ingredient: rice! I’ve been getting the Full Circle Organic Rice Cakes (unsalted) and have been either just eating them plain, crumbling them up to put onto of things, or smashing a banana ontop. They are such a good base for just about anything; jam, fruit, hummus, or nut butter.

Asian Food:

At the beginning of the month my mom and I took a trip to the Grand Asian Market in Cary and I fell in love! I had never really enjoyed Asian cuisine, but once I had the “proper” ingredients I’ve really enjoyed incorporating Asian foods into my diet. I’ve been making sushi (without the fish) every so often, and also made a really delicious miso soup. The Grand Asian Market also had a really good selection of teas, so I’ve really been enjoying those as well (especially chamomile green tea).

Things I Loved In June

June flew by so fast, but it brought many new favorites that I want to share with you! This month was mostly spent at school and spending time with family. Can’t believe it’s over, I’m but excited for July!

So here are some things that I’ve been loving in June:

  • Glass straws
I had alway thought about getting/using glass straws because I think they are so useful and environmental-friendly. I bought two from ManyMinis’s store on Etsy, they were fairly cheap and I just love them! I love how they are reusable and are made out of something other than plastic.

My Favorite: Vegetables

So here is another favorites post, where I basically try really really hard to choose my top five favorites….this time it’s vegetables.

Disclaimer: in my mind, sweet potatoes have a category of their own, so they aren’t going to be included in this list. Also, I won’t include greens in this either for the same reason.

     1. Carrots
I would definitely choose carrots as my top favorite vegetable, because of how it has such a great flavor. Carrots are one of the sweeter vegetables, which I think is especially brought out in roasting them. Also carrots and hummus….need I say more?

My Favorite: Fruits

Sometimes, when I really want to get to know someone I ask them what their top five favorite fruits are. Most of the time, they think I’m crazy…but it is a completely appropriate question, or at least I think it is. So I’m going to answer this one so maybe you can get to know me a little better.

Disclaimer: this is one of the hardest lists for me to make, because fruit is something I literally can’t get enough of, and also its difficult for me to narrow it down to just five.

1. Bananas
the main reason why bananas are my number one favorite fruit is because of their versatility and accessibility. they are good frozen, natural, cooked, mashed, and all of the above. also, they are super cheap and can be found most anywhere.
pro tip: wait until bananas are spotty, thats when all the starch has formed into sugars that your body can digest, causing easy and quick digestion.
