My Favorite: Trader Joe’s Products

Trader Joe’s is probably one of my favorite places to shop, not one of my favorite grocery stores to shop at, but my favorite store in general. Being the foodie I am, I’d much rather food shop than shop for clothes. I don’t live near a Trader Joe’s, so when I am able to go I like to stock up on my favorites. Trader Joe’s is awesome because you can get great quality foods for low prices. The service is great, and they’ll always help you in any way they can. If you’ve never been to a Trader Joe’s you definitely should find one, and go! When you are able to go, make sure to try out some of my favorite products, I’m sure you won’t regret it!

1. CURRY SIMMER SAUCE

This sauce is incredible, it’s kind of like my ketchup, I put it on just about everything! I love putting it over some freshly steamed potatoes, or in a tortilla with some sprouts and avocado. It’s so versatile and can really add some flavor to any type of dish.

2. CORN AND CHILE SALSA

This salsa will probably change your life, for the better of course. It’s both sweet and savory and a perfect salsa to top off any meal. I love using it in a burrito bowl, or on top of a salad.

What I Eat In A Day | August 7, 2015

I was back at home, and out of my apartment for the week so today’s food was a little different than it typically is. For breakfast, I didn’t have my “usual,” but instead had two slices of (slightly burnt..oops!) Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread drizzled with maple syrup and two bananas. I also had a cup of coffee, with some almond milk added to it.

My mom has a huge container of herbs, and the basil was growing super tall. I picked off several stems and started to dry them to make some dried basil. It’s really easy to do! All you have to do is pick some stems of an herb, then tie a string (yarn or twine works well) to the end of the stem, and then tie each stem to a coat hanger. Hang the hangers in a dark, dry closet for a few weeks and you’ll have some awesome/flavorful dried herbs! Super simple and inexpensive!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshake

IMG_8385It’s hot outside! Sweltering hot weather calls for cold drinks, especially milkshakes! I love any drink that is smooth, cold, & creamy and milkshakes are one of my favorite treats to have when it’s hot outside. This recipe is a delicious chocolate strawberry flavored milkshake and it definitely doesn’t have to be for dessert, because it’s filled with tons of nutrients and is good for you!

One ingredient in this milkshake that I’ve recently discovered is a vegan, plant-based supplement powder. I’m usually not a big fan of supplements, especially protein supplements. Protein isn’t something anyone really needs any extra of, most of our diets have plenty of protein without needing to supplement. We really need only about 8-10% of our diet to come from protein, but  I’ll talk more about that in a future blog post. IMG_8391

So anyways, I was a little skeptical about this powder, but not only did it have good quality plant-based protein, but it had lots of other beneficial nutrients. It has digestive enzymes, omega-3 (from plants, not fish), minerals, vitamins, prebiotics, and is non-GMO, and is soy-free. It doesn’t have any artificial sweeteners, or colors which is also great. The serving size is 2 scoops, which has 20 g of protein, so I only used one scoop. The taste is great, and it is pretty easy to add a little bit to any type of smoothie or beverage to get in some extra vitamins and minerals, as well as probiotics/digestive enzymes. I picked up mine at CVS but you can check it out on Naturade’s website.

Now onto the recipe! Continue reading “Chocolate Covered Strawberry Milkshake”

What I Eat In A Day | July 28, 2015

Today’s What I Eat In A Day will be a little different, because I entered all my food into cronometer which is an awesome website that tracks you calories, macronutrient ration, as well as nutrients. I definitely don’t do this everyday, but I like to do it at least once a month to make sure I’m eating all my vitamins, and minerals as well as just see how all my food adds up. So now, onto the food!

Breakfast was eaten at about 11:00, and was my typical breakfast. Two slices of Ezekiel bread, one with peanut butter and molasses and the other with blackberry jelly. Along side the toast, I had some strawberries, two bananas, and of course a nice cup of black coffee.
